The Banff World Media Festival at the Banff Springs Hotel saw a gathering of film, television, and digital media producers from around the world. Digital Alberta was present to showcase the world of digital media and highlight some convergence trends being created by some exciting companies and individuals from around the province. Alberta Film graciously shared some of their exhibition booth space with Digital Alberta where one of our members Pieter Boekhoff of POSH View Inc. was able to demonstrate his interactive mirror display.
At the end of the first day of the event, Digital Alberta board member, Owen Brierley of Guru Digital Arts College and his team of video projection mappers created a video based visualization show for 100 Mile House who was performing for Alberta Film's reception at Wild Bill's in downtown Banff. The Banff Centre provided 3 digital video projectors to allow Owen and his team to project imagery on the stage and the dance floor. The project was successful enough to prompt 100 Mile House to ask Owen if he would be willing to do more shows with them!
On Monday Owen moderated a panel called Digital Alberta Intersections with fellow board member Chad Smith from Hybrid Forge, Pieter Boekhoff of POSH View Inc., and Jordan Dowler-Coltman of Skyward Motion Pictures. These three leaders in digital media production innovation shared their experiences with everything from smartphone app development to shooting digital 3D film underwater. The audience was intimate, but engaged.
Digital Alberta's presence at these types of events is crucial to continuing to foster a healthy relationship between the various media associations. Michelle's initiative to include us again this year yielded some good networking opportunities and greater connectivity with the larger media production community.
