The Make Fashion launch party on June 6th was an exciting preview of the upcoming festival. In it's first year, Make Fashion celebrates the fusion of technology and fashion in the creation of both artistic and practical forms. The launch party centred around a panel discussion and a preview of the festival's upcoming events.
The panel, featuring Jeff de Boer, Dee Fontans, and Lara Prebster (led by event organizers Shannon Hoover and Chelsea Klukas) discussed the merging of arts and technology, the cultural significance of these innovations, and the practical uses of technology in clothing. The panelists described their own experiences with utilizing technology and their predictions for future possibilities. The event also included a silent auction and a molecular cocktail bar by Phil Grandbois complete with smoking bourbon shots and alcoholic gelatin.
Make Fashion events continue into the summer with three workshops scheduled throughout July. The events are open to the public and offer tutorials and resource on making tech-augmented jewelry, hats, and costume patches.
