Description
In recognition of the rising importance that innovation and entrepreneurship play in Canada’s economy, Mount Royal University launched the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2012. The Institute’s goal is to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and graduate innovators and leaders who will have a dramatic impact on businesses, social enterprises and their community.

Reporting to the Director of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, you will be the point person for the marketing and implementation of the Institute’s initiatives and events, including student events, student competitions, new venture programs, and the RBC Learning Lab.

You will also be responsible for planning and executing a creative and inspiring marketing program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at MRU with the goal of building a thriving physical and online community of students, alumni, faculty and industry. You will use non-traditional marketing to promote the brand and engage our audience. You will also manage a growing list of potential volunteers to ensure we continue to leverage the community in the education of the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. You will make a difference.

Duties
As the Marketing Coordinator you will be responsible for creating new ideas and executing strategies as well as managing and coordinating volunteers and events. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program/Event Management
• Plan and coordinate the Institute’s various student-centric programs including large-scale events such as the Innovation Tournament, Venture Design Studio and the Sweatbox Challenge. This will require event management, faculty and student coordination, and the coordination of industry guests/VIPs
• Work with the Director and Faculty to initiate new programs, such as a New Venture Program, that help foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students
• Identify and create other innovative events to engage and recruit students from across campus and/or other external audiences

Marketing Communications
• Enhance the Institute’s profile among its internal and external target audiences
• Develop and execute a unique and creative Marketing and Communications Plan including traditional marketing (e.g. posters, events, newsletters), online marketing (e.g. website), events, social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) as well as other non-traditional strategies
• Keep abreast of relevant activities and articles that might be of interest to our audience of students and community members. This requires an evolving understanding of the innovation and entrepreneurship disciplines and ability to comment on and spark dialogue on relevant issues
• Author content for various online and traditional marketing media
• Maintain the Institute’s presence on social media such as Facebook and Twitter
• Maintain Institute web site and build virtual community of students, alumni, faculty and the community

Volunteer Coordination
• Manage volunteers from industry, alumni and senior students to ensure we properly engage the community to the benefit of our students

Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree with specialization in entrepreneurship, marketing, communications or related field, or equivalent
• Minimum 1 – 3 years relevant work experience with demonstrated ability to develop and implement marketing and communication plans
• Strong creative and technical skills necessary to executive on an inspiring marketing plan
• Knowledge and experience with the effective use of web site and social marketing tools
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities
• Highly independent, able to lead projects with minimal direction
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of professional interactions with students, faculty, staff and industry executives
• The successful candidate will be a highly creative individual who can build and execute an innovative and unique marketing plan that reflects the spirit of MRU’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship program

Salary: $2,102.46 semi-monthly
