Panelists Announced for Mobile Innovation Showcase

Digital Alberta is bringing together leading innovators in mobile for the Mobile Innovation Showcase happening on February 28 from 5:30-8:30pm at Innovate Calgary and presented by Digital Alberta. Join Poynt, WMode, Kryos and Mediumrare to learn about their innovations, the challenges of building a successful mobile company in a still somewhat nascent market, and what companies are doing to address those challenges. The mobile community in Alberta is burgeoning and we want to bring together thought leaders, developers, marketers and creatives to shine a spotlight on innovation and build momentum to a thriving industry.

In addition to the panel, there will be a demo area set up and we invite companies to register for a table to showcase their mobile products and services.

The Panelists:

Kris Read, Technical Lead, Poynt Corp

Kris Read has been involved in the Calgary technology sector for over a decade, in a variety of roles including Team Lead, Consultant, Architect, Researcher, Developer, Manager and CTO. Kris organized both the Calgary Agile Methods and Calgary DevOps user groups, and has been a speaker at conferences across Canada and the US, including Agile Vancouver, Agile Toronto, Agile Universe, Cloud Camp, and O'Reilly OSCON. Kris is the Mobile Team Lead at Poynt and is extremely passionate about the Mobile space, as well as Technology Startups, DevOps Culture and Cloud Computing.

Poynt Corporation builds the multi-award winning all-in-one location-based search application, Poynt for BlackBerry smartphones, iPhone and iPod Touch, Android, Nokia QT and Windows Phone 7 devices.

Colin Chong, Product Manager, AppCarosel, WMode

With years of experience in wireless retail, account management, and mobile analytics, Colin is the Product Manager for AppCarousel. He is responsible for developing requirements for new feature enhancements, identifying market opportunities and growth areas, driving a strategic product roadmap, and managing the delivery of AppCarousel services for its clients. Colin holds a BComm in Finance.

For over 10 years, Wmode has operated a comprehensive suite of managed services, providing mobile operators and the app economy with the recruitment, management, discovery, delivery, and payment of mobile apps, content, and consumer services. In the summer of 2011 Wmode launched AppCarousel as a wholly owned startup. AppCarousel is the new solution to the promotion and discovery challenges facing the app economy. It enables organizations to curate, distribute, and share their branded carousels which merchandize and monetize selected targeted apps and digital content directly to their audience.

Bryan Maniotakis, Creative Director, Mediumrare

Bryan Maniotakis is a co-founder and half of design force at Mediumrare (as well as the reigning foosball champ). When he's not designing for web or iOS, he's writing and producing music utilizing his background in audio engineering.

At Mediumrare, the term “status quo” isn’t part of our vocabulary. Our close-knit team of creative thinkers and agency defectors pack innovative design and development into every iOS, Mac or web project we take on. We’ve honed our design skills on projects for clients, including massive online retailers, like Nordstrom and Blue Nile, while developing in-house applications such as Next Stop for Calgary Transit riders.

Jeff Samis, VP Product and Market Development, Kryos

Jeff Samis has over 15 years’ experience in market and product development, and has helped develop and bring to market a number successful B2B and B2C e-Commerce web platforms to clients in a variety of verticals. His understanding of the business to technology interface has allowed him to develop new platforms that transform paper based environments to the online space. Jeff’s success has been predicated on incorporating the voice of the customer into building technology based products that deliver real value, and provided his clients to be recognized for innovation awards. He was involved in pioneering several different EDI applications in the financial services industry, and for the past several years has focused on the Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP) space. Jeff is responsible for the product strategy and management of our Velocity rapid application development platform.

Kryos is a software and services company with 15 years of experience delivering solutions to a wide range of clients.
