Student Mentoring Through Digital Alberta

Alberta proudly hosts a number of internationally-recognized colleges and education programs for design and digital media. Every spring, a group of new graduates join Alberta's pool of creative talent. However for many grads, the transition from student to employment can be challenging and confusing.

School provides students with the techniques to be skilled in their field, but may not educate on how to find jobs, prepare a portfolio, and succeed in interviews. Students may be surprised when their first job isn't what they expected, and may be uncertain of how to progress to find the right challenges and mentors. Even experienced designers may find themselves stagnant and "stuck" several years into their career, seeking new opportunities and more creative and challenging positions.

"Launching Your Design Career" on May 28th presented by Chelsea Klukas will provide insight for getting your design career to a great start and overcoming limitations and roadblocks. The seminar will cover building a successful portfolio, finding job openings, nailing interviews, and getting the most from your job once you have it. The presentation content is sourced from agency leads, upper management, and senior creatives based on their own career paths and experience as hiring and managing junior designers. The event is $10 for student members of Digital Alberta, $15 for regular members, and free for students purchasing new memberships.
