In partnership with industry, Telefilm Canada recently launched an innovative competition to create the next great Canadian video game.
From the Montreal International Game Summit, Telefilm Canada Executive Director Wayne Clarkson unveil Telefilm's Great Canadian Video Game Competition. "With the input and support of industry, Telefilm has created a new opportunity for talented Canadian game developers to build business expertise and commercialize original game content that leverages innovative distribution methods," says Clarkson.
Industry consultant and partner Danielle Michael, former Vice President of Business Development at Radical Entertainment, has come aboard to direct the project.
Telefilm is convinced that Canada has the talent and potential to be a world leader in the $20-billion video game market. While the country is already a key international hub for game development, challenges exist for independent game developers to bring original content to market in the multiplatform environment. The Great Canadian Video Game Competition, a first-of-its-kind initiative, will help elevate the commercial profile of Canadian-owned game development companies and grow the industry.
The initiative is sponsored by industry partners Electronic Arts, Radical Entertainment and Ubisoft.
Applicants may only enter the Competition at Round 1 (Innovation). Complete applications must reach Telefilm Canada’s Western region office by 5pm (PST) December 15, 2006. So enter today! Complete guidelines and application form can be found here.
