Joel will be presenting on several topics including Business Strategies & the Influence of Interactive Media, The Demand for New Interactive Advertising Solutions, and an overview of the digital media scene in Texas, including the upcoming South by SouthWest (SXSW) Interactive Festival.
Joel Greenberg is a marketing consultant specializing in the variety of new media opportunities available to companies to reach and engage customers in a world where consumers are tuning out marketing. He is a 20 year industry veteran developing strategy and creating interactive experiences for Fortune 500 companies and startups including Land Rover, Brinker International, Time-Warner, AT&T, Motorola, AMD, The American Legacy Foundation, Dun & Bradstreet, Schering Labs, Leapfrog Toys, and many others. Most recently, as the Vice President of Marketing Innovation at The Electric Sheep Company, he developed an ad network for Virtual Worlds, Second Life being the first. Joel was a Senior Planner and an Interactive Strategy Director at the ad agency GSD&M in Austin, TX, where he specialized in understanding consumer use of technology. He lead the effort for GSD&M's Idea City in Second Life. He was an executive producer at Human Code the award winning Austin studio; and has been a freelance multimedia developer, simulation and game designer, programmer, project manager, and writer.
Joel is a sought after speaker on marketing and the consumer use of technology and has given talks and seminars at SXSWi, Virtual Worlds Conference, Future of Online Advertising, Stanford, MIT, UT, and many other conferences and universities. Joel is a graduate of Penn State, where he designed his own major, combining science with writing in a time when computer professors asked him, "Why would you want to combine computers with video?" The answer is obvious now, but not then. He's also an amateur historian, having recently published "The Ore Terminal in Big Bend National Park", an article on a cross-border structure in West Texas in The Journal of Big Bend Studies. Joel lives in Austin, TX with his wife and children.
